This is a voluntary role for the Graeme Dingle Foundation.

The mentor / supporting employer will receive the following benefits:

Background

The Graeme Dingle Foundation (the Foundation) is a leader in the field of Child/Youth Development in New Zealand. The Foundation provides children and young people with the opportunity to build self-confidence and learn valuable life skills by participating in several unique developmental programmes. Current programmes delivered in Hawke’s Bay are Kiwi Can & Career Navigator. Our kaupapa is to give tamariki and rangatahi the tools they need to overcome life’s obstacles and succeed.

Purpose of the Role
To mentor groups of up to 4 rangatahi. Years 12/13 aged 16-18. The purpose of mentoring is to help rangatahi find a career pathway, be a sounding board, share your experience, use your business/industry connections and help them set and achieve SMART goals.

Tasks
Attend fortnightly group mentoring sessions and fortnightly mentor only catchups.

Hours: 1-2 hrs per week during school terms. March – October.

Location: Flaxmere College

Person Specification
A Career Navigator Mentor will have a focus on the needs of youth and will want to pay it forward. They will;
• Encourage caring and supportive relationships.
• Encourage youth to maximise their potential.
• Seek to empower youth with key life skills.
• Encourage and inspire youth to develop their visions for the future.
• Assist with the setting and attaining of SMART goals.
• Aim to assist young people to improve their self-worth/self-image, pride and confidence levels.
• Encourage youth to identify with the local and wider community.
